Location: Whidbey Island
Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra, under the leadership of conductor Anna Edwards, is inviting the community to celebrate the anticipated vibrant arrival of spring with its upcoming concert, Nature (Re)Awaken: A Celebration of Nature and Music. As we begin our transition into the blooming season, the orchestra has curated a dynamic program filled with pieces that evoke the spirit of spring. Performances are March 8, 7pm at South Whidbey High School and March 9, 2pm at Oak Harbor High School.
The concert will feature Louise Farrenc’s Overture No. 1, a rarely performed gem by one of the 19th century’s most gifted composers; Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Idyll, a lyrical and tranquil composition for full orchestra; Joe Jaxson’s Through the Bay, a newly composed work inspired by the composer’s ferry ride across the waters of Puget Sound; and concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, a lush symphonic masterpiece that captures the splendor of nature in its rich orchestration and melody. In addition to the music, former classical music radio host Marta Zekan will share captivating stories and commentary throughout the performance, enriching the experience with her personal touch.
